On May 23rd and 24th Carola Wijdoogen and Elfrieke van Galen spoke at the 2018 Sustainability Leaders Congress in Berlin. At this international conference current business, societal and scientific topics were discussed such as: water conservation and waste management, renewable energy, greenhouse gases and environmental strategies, integrated reporting and SDGs, circular economy and sustainable product development.
Elfrieke van Galen and Carola Wijdoogen were invited as key-note speakers to discuss the roles CSO’s play within organizations, best practices in CSR and to share their combined practical experience in their session. During their session Elfrieke and Carola created a survey designed to test the understanding and practice of the 7 roles of CSR managers as identified and described in Carola Wijdoogen’s book “MVO doe je zo”. The results of the survey were presented the next day at the conference. They concluded that on average CSO’s find their strategic role the most important role and want to spend more time -almost a quarter of their time in that role – to be effective. However, they currently spend significant less time in their strategic role. CSO’s can learn more from each other on how to increase their strategic role and effectively address CSR/sustainability in the boardroom.
Carola and Elfrieke will continue with the survey to gather more information on the current state of the CSR and Sustainability profession.
